Dear Reader,
Hey. I hope you are doing well. Just jumpin' in:
Fiona Apple and Louis C.K. dated briefly years ago. Surprising, right? I had no idea either.
After Louie's world blew up in 2017, Fiona stated in an interview that she felt as though he didn't give a wholesome enough public response.
That he could have gone deeper.
That when she writes,
she pushes herself to the point where her hands shake.
That he could've pushed that far, and didn't.
The goal for quality of movement being to the point of hands shaking really resonated.
Really clicked something in place about the relationship between our intangible weight within our nervous systems,
and our hands we use to experience our physical world.
How the utilization of one leads to a release in the other.
How it differs when the direction flips.
Our current.
My hands shook for this weaving...
ToolBoxEarth's next collection will be released in April. Comprised of artworks representing the seven veils as illustrated within Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins.
Exposed behind each of the veils is: DREAM, REASON, PASSION, BLISS, COURAGE, COMPASSION, KNOWLEDGE
And this weaving is one of 'em.
More on which veil and why later.
MATERIALS: 23" quilting hoops, African wax cotton fabrics, green wool, hemp, spent climbing rope donated from Central Rock Gym, ROC
If you look closely, there's some packaging labels all over the beautiful black and white pattern close the the edge of the woven body of the work. (see again here)
I knew this fabric was the one and only option.
There wasn't enough fabric to omit the sections with the permanent adhesive.
And I thought of the monologue in Another Earth about the Cosmonaut:
The blemishes became a focal point where the eye can find rest within the irregular, large splotches of white.
It's a decision to turn whatever 'it' is, into music.
It's a decision we always have.
What can be done once it's decided?
Spring's a comin'! Have a stellar rest of your day, dear Reader.
Even after everyone else gets up from the table,
